I think I just might've started the perler bead craze...

I'm going to make a perler bead necklace of a butt, with a butt-shaped tattoo on it. |

What a coincidence! I just went to buy Perler beads for bead spriting, and I come back to find this article. Buying the beads from the actual website may be a good idea if you can't find them at a craft store, they're fairly cheap there. For someone in Europe, Hama beads might be easier to get. I think the hole is larger with Hama beads but I have heard that their boards are better in that they piece together a bit more securely for larger work. Anyways, I've yet to actually create anything. Doctor Octorok, an artist, just started taking commissions again so I figured I may as well try. Should be easier than painting (that takes forever). On a final note, DO NOT BUY THE BUCKET OF DOOM. I suggest getting the individual colors you know you need as sorting through a mess of beads is time consuming and annoying at best. It may be good for starting out, but when you start running out of beads... I just found this, it might be helpful: http://www.edsalisbury.net/projects/perlerpal/ Anyways, great article. I've seen some cool stuff before and It'd be awesome to see what people are capable of. -Klick ------------------------- "In our attempts to document arcade history it seems we have inadvertently become a part of arcade history." - Aaron Giles Edited: 11/04/2009 at 08:39 PM by Klick123 |

Perler beads are so cool. I'd been working on making every mega man boss but stopped after making about 10. I'll start again sometime soon, but I've made tons of Mario ones that is enough for now. One day I'll make a mural, but necklaces are also pretty cool...just not for public wear -------------------------

Nice stuff in there. Word to newbies when messing with pictures for this stuff: jpegs = bad, bitmaps = good. Especally when you make big items. Like Deniz's head or NGD's avatar.
